Book Log

Here you can see all the books I've read so far this year.

January:

Love You, Soldier
By Amy Hest
Notes: This was a brilliant book! I thought it moved a little fast, but that's only because it's written for slightly younger kids.
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Once & Then
By Morris Gleitzman
Notes: What an amazing book! It was actually two books in one. They were both very good books, but rather sad.
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

The Diamond Of Drury Lane
By Julia Golding
Notes: This book was so exciting that it only took me around a day to get through it! Cat is a fantabulous character, and I like that it's set in Georgian London.
Rating: I'll give this 5 out of 5!

Raising Faith
By Melody Carlson
Notes: I liked this book, but it took me until I was almost finished it to really get into, so the story-line wasn't fast-paced enough for me. But it was still good.
Rating: 2 out of 5 stars.

Run Away
By Melody Carlson
Notes: I really liked this one! It was full of action and kinda scary, but that made it even better!
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

Now
By Morris Gleitzman
Notes: Great book, but it stopped at a really terrible spot, and SPOILER ALERT!!, it doesn't actually tell you what happened to Felix and Zelda after their house burnt down in the last book, which really annoyed me. SPOILER ALERT OVER.
Rating: I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars.

It's a girl thing
By Beverly Lewis
Notes: I really liked this book, and got through it quite fast! I was a little sad at the end of it though, because it's the last in the Holly's Heart series, and I'd like to see what she does with the rest of her life. It was a great book though.
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

Ski Trip
By Melody Carlson
Notes: I liked this, but I didn't like how the girls were acting in it. They weren't really doing anything wrong, but I didn't like that they were pretty much exact opposites of each other, and they sort of split up for a while.
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.

Secret Admirer
By Melody Carlson
Notes: This is the last in the series as well, so of course I was a little sad when it ended. But this book was one of the best in the series for me. I could relate to practically everything, and really enjoyed it!
Rating: 4 & 1/2 out of 5 stars.

February:

After
By Morris Gleitzman
Notes: I liked this book, but some bits made my skin crawl, and I didn't like that it's the last in the series and ended in a really bad spot!
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

In Grandma's Attic
By Arleta Richardson
Notes: My little sisters have been reading these books and enjoying them, so I thought I might try them as well! I was expecting them to be really boring and babyish, but was surprised at how good they are! Great book!
Rating: 4 & 1/2 out of 5 stars.

The Time Travelling Fashionista At the Palace of Marie Antionette
By Bianca Turetsky
Notes: My friend Bella has read the Time Travelling Fashionista Books, and did a review for one on her blog. I thought it looked good, so I searched on our library's website, and they only had this one :( Anyway, I put it on hold, and am glad I did because this book is fantabulous! The illustrations were amazing, and I couldn't put it down (so of course I read it in one day!). The only problem really that I've had is that it takes you a while to get into the story. Other than that, it's a great book and I definitely recommend it.
Rating: 4 & 1/2 out of 5 stars.

More Stories From Grandma's Attic
By Arleta Richardson
Notes: Great book!
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

Still More Stories From Grandma's Attic
By Arleta Richardson
Notes: Another great book from this series!
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

Treasures From Grandma's Attic
By Arleta Richardson
Notes: This is book four and the last one we have of the series so far! I really enjoyed it and hope that we can buy the rest of them soon.
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

Star Status
By Beverly Lewis
Notes: I really enjoyed this book, but it wasn't one of my favourites in the series.
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.

Little Town on The Prairie
By Laura Ingalls Wilder
Notes: I've been meaning to finish reading this for ages now! I've tried reading it a couple of times, but found it so boring near the end, that I didn't bother finishing it. This time I really enjoyed it, and have now read the next one as well!
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars.

March:

Diamond
By Jacqueline Wilson
Notes: I really enjoyed the Hetty Feather series when I read it, and was rather upset at the end of the last book, which was the end of Hetty's Story. My sister Liesl found this for me at the library when we were there, and I was so excited, because I'd always wondered what happened to Diamond and Hetty after "Emerald Star" finished. I really hope that Jacqueline Wilson writes even more books about them, and considering this one is still rather new out, that may be possible! Fingers crossed!
Rating: 4 & 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Orphans of the Queen
By Ruth Starke
Notes: I really enjoyed this book, but not really how it ended because it didn't end in a good spot.
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.

These Happy Golden Years
By Laura Ingalls Wilder
Notes: This was a really good book, but not the best in the series.
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

Never Miss A Sunset
By Jeanette Gilge
Notes: This is now high on my list of favourite books! It was very good!
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars.

Meet Samantha
By Susan S. Adler
Notes: I've read it before, but Meet Samantha is such a great book, that I decided to read it again. Especially with Sam being re-released again and everything!
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

A Thrilling Term At Janeways
By Elinor M. Brent-Dyer
Notes: This was one of the books from my Mum's collection of vintage school stories! And also by one of my favourite authors (She also wrote the Chalet School and La Rochelle books and of course a lot of other ones as well). It took a few chapters for me to really "get into" the story, but after that it was really good, and very exciting!
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars.
